Brittish Issue WWII
MOSSBERG 42M-B U.S. LEASE LEND TRAINING RIFLE

Calibre .22RF
Price: £250

Very Good Condition

These rifles were first ordered by the British Government in June of 1941under the US lend lease Agreement

The original Mossberg Model 42 rifle was a sporting rifle which was modified to a full-length military style stock to meet the British Military requirments

The initial order was for 10,000 rifles and they were supplied under the U.S. Lease Lend programe.

There were additional contracts for rifles during the next eighteen months, which consisted of a batch of 8,000 later on in 1941, 20,000 in March 1942, and two more batches, totalling 8,000 in 1943.

Most of the production of this model was supplied to Britain

These Lend Lease Rifles can be easily identified by the marking "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" stamped on both the barrel and the receiver.

The rear aperture sight used by Mossberg was quite fragile & prone to damage. To overcome this issue Parker-Hale modified one of their "Sportarget" rear-sights with a bracket to fit the left-hand side of the Mossberg receiver.

This rifle has just been proofed & is complete with its original detatchable magazine and is also is fitted with a sling made from a Pattern 37 Webbing strap.

This is a great accurate little rifle, see the 25yd target below

This actual rifle is also detailed on the "Rifleman" Website:

This is a good example of a rare WW2 British training rifle with has an excellent bore.
